ARCACHON IN THE OPEN AIR: OUR CYCLING ITINERARY

With over 330 km of bike paths, the Arcachon Bay is an ideal playground for two-wheel enthusiasts. Between charming oyster-farming villages and breathtaking landscapes, every pedal stroke brings a new surprise.

Want to discover the Bay from a different perspective? Hop on your bike and let yourself be guided! To help you, here is our itinerary to (re)discover Arcachon in the open air.

From the Winter City to the tip of Cap Ferret

Cycling around the Bay is not only possible but also very enjoyable. Thanks to the Vélodyssée and the Voie Verte, you follow a safe, well-marked route, far from traffic, offering 77 km of pure bliss.

Stage 1: From Arcachon to Andernos (38 km – about 2h40)

Before you leave, take the time to enjoy Arcachon’s city center: stroll through the Winter City, admire its Belle Époque villas, then head to the Jetée Thiers. This is where the journey officially begins!

Next, cross the Autumn City and ride along La Hume port, which will lead you straight to Gujan-Mestras, the oyster farming capital. Here, a break in an oyster hut is a must, guaranteed feet-in-the-water tasting!

Then continue to the Teich Ornithological Reserve: a true haven for observing wild birds in their natural habitat.

Next, head towards Biganos and its colorful huts along the canal: a unique setting, perfect for soaking up the region’s atmosphere. Similarly, Audenge port welcomes you with its pastel-colored cabins.

If you still have some energy, explore the trails of the Certes and Graveyron estate on foot; otherwise, continue to Andernos via the lovely Bétey beach and the Louis David jetty.

Stage 2: From Andernos to Cap Ferret (27 km – about 2h)

Head towards the typical villages of the peninsula. The most emblematic? The village of L’Herbe. It houses fishermen’s huts dating back to the late 19th century, some of which are still used for oyster farming. With its typical cabins, flowered alleys, and stunning views over the Bay, L’Herbe is the perfect place to pause for a picnic or a coffee on the terrace.

Then resume your ride towards the tip of Cap Ferret. Here, the lighthouse, sand dunes and unique atmosphere make you feel like you’ve reached the end of the world!

To conclude this beautiful journey, board a boat to cross the Bay and return to Arcachon, wind in your hair and memories full in your heart.

After the effort, comfort awaits

Want to extend the experience gently? Settle in at the Arcanse hotel. Located just steps from the beach and bike paths, it’s the perfect refuge to rest after a lovely getaway. Here, you take the time to savor, breathe… and start again tomorrow if you feel like it.
