DISCOVERING ARCACHON’S LOCAL SPECIALTIES

Want to bring a little taste of Arcachon back home with you? Set your sights on the unmissable delights of the Bay: whether to enjoy on the spot or to share with others, here are four local specialties you simply must try, and most importantly, savor!

Dunes Blanches: bite-sized delights you will crave again and again

When visiting the Bay, you can’t miss the dunes, whether made of sand or cream!

Indeed, it’s impossible to talk about Arcachon without mentioning the iconic Dune Blanche.

This cream puff, filled with a light and vanilla-flavored whipped cream, has become a cult favorite across the South-West.

Soft, melt-in-the-mouth and irresistibly addictive… it truly lives up to its name: a sweet cloud straight from the Bay, inspired by the majestic dunes that line the coast.

Where to try it?

Head to Chez Pascal in Moulleau, the creator of this delicious treat. Get ready to queue, but every bite is worth the wait.

Address : 21 avenue Gambetta, 33120 – Arcachon

Bay Oysters: the salty star

They are THE flagship product of Arcachon. Raised in an exceptional ecosystem where fresh and salt water meet, these oysters are known for their delicate flavor and perfectly balanced salinity. Best enjoyed raw, with a squeeze of lemon or a dash of shallot vinegar.

Where to taste them?

Take a seat with your feet in the sand at Chez Boulan in Cap Ferret! Stunning setting, ultra-fresh oysters, a glass of chilled white wine… the perfect combo.

Adrress : 2 rue des Palmiers, 33970 – Lège Cap Ferret

Abatilles Water: bottled mineral softness

Drawn from 472 meters deep, just steps from Moulleau Beach, Eau des Abatilles is a 100% local natural mineral water. Low in minerals, it pairs just as well with gourmet meals as with wellness moments. So… how about a sip of Arcachon in a bottle?

Where to drink it?

On the terrace at Café de la Plage, over breakfast at Cap Pereire or in the wine shop of a good downtown cellar. Abatilles is the go-to water around the Bay, and a guaranteed refreshment!

Bay Salt: the white gold of the coast

Another lesser-known local gem: Bay of Arcachon salt. Hand-harvested using traditional methods, it captures the marine essence of the region. Used in cooking or as a final touch on meat, fish or salads, it brings out the full richness of the local terroir. Available plain, or enhanced with spices or smoked aromas.

Where to find it?

The shop at Hôtel Arcanse offers a fine selection of Bay Salt in four versions: natural, smoked, spiced (with organic spices) or spirulina blue. A gift idea that’s both elegant and delicious!

Address : 10 avenue Nelly Deganne, 33210 – Arcachon

A flavorful getaway

Whether you have a sweet tooth or a love for ocean flavors, Arcachon is sure to delight your palate. And to keep the experience going, make sure to stop by the town center’s best gourmet spots or step inside the Arcanse shop, and take a little piece of the Bay home with you!
