Our suggested walk through Spring Town
First stop: the Jetée de la Chapelle, one of Arcachon’s iconic spots. It offers stunning views of the Bay and invites you to escape toward the horizon. With boat docks and fishing piers built on stilts, it also serves to break the waves. At the end of the pier, don’t miss the majestic Croix des Marins, which stands 14 meters high. Once painted red, it was a landmark and a symbol of protection for sailors, who used to salute it with three blasts of their foghorn before heading out to sea.
Just a short walk away, visit the Basilica of Notre-Dame. Built in a Gothic style, it houses the Chapel des Marins, the oldest building in the city. Much more than a place of worship, it’s a piece of Arcachon’s history to which locals are deeply attached. This is a must-visit, where the past still seems to whisper through the walls… A perfect opportunity to step back in time while taking in the sights.
No visit to ‘Spring Town’ is complete without mentioning Pereire Beach. Family-friendly, lined with pine trees and cycle paths, it offers a unique view of the Dune du Pilat. People come here to walk, sunbathe, chat, people-watch… or simply do nothing at all.
For something a bit different, head to the Sainte-Anne des Abatilles Source, where water known for its purity is drawn from more than 400 meters underground. Antioxidant-rich, high in calcium, and low in nitrates, this water is still bottled today. Whether you're seeking health benefits or are curious about local history, this spot is a must-see. A natural treasure to enjoy both for its taste and its story.
Finally, wrap up your outing in Le Moulleau, a charming district at the far southwest of Arcachon. It blends a seaside vibe with a lively small-town feel. Here you will find a lovely beach, waterfront cafés, a pier, shops, and above all, Notre-Dame-des-Passes Church, perched on a hill and accessible via a beautiful staircase. It’s the perfect spot to end a sunny day!
