TOP 5 WINTER ACTIVITIES IN ARCACHON

Arcachon has plenty to offer in winter. Indeed, while the town is often associated with summer festivities, it also offers a wide range of activities during the cold season. Discover the top 5 must-try activities on the Bassin d'Arcachon, even in winter!

Arcachon, the town of four seasons

Contrary to what you might think, Arcachon is not a deserted winter town. You can enjoy its magnificent landscapes all year round. Between pine forests, mythical beaches and the famous Dune du Pilat, the region's natural beauty persists even in the coldest weather. In La Teste-de-Buch, for example, you can explore over 7,000 hectares of forest and enjoy beautiful bike rides on the many paths and cycle tracks. It's also the ideal time of year to go fishing on foot, especially during high tides, and unearth the marine treasures of the Atlantic.

But that's not all. You can also take advantage of activities that are a little out of the ordinary this winter. Here are 5 of them:

1. Visit the Ville d'Hiver to discover the town's finest residences.

An emblematic district of Arcachon, the Ville d'Hiver, with its 300-plus villas, is an address not to be missed during the winter season.

On a guided tour, you'll have the chance to take in the sights and discover the architectural and stylistic evolution of these different villas. Anecdotes and stories will be told along the way.

Stroll through the narrow streets to spot the most famous villas, such as Villa Teresa, Brémontier, Trocadéro, or even Alexandre Dumas's.

2. The « Théâtre Olympia » for a cultural experience

A veritable institution in Arcachon for almost 140 years, the « Théâtre Olympia » offers a rich and varied program all year round. From comedy shows to plays and symphony concerts, there's something for everyone!

For example, Olivia Ruiz will be performing “La Réplique” on Saturday, February 8. But also Sophie Marceau, appearing for the first time on stage in Arcachon, alongside François Berléand for the play “La Note” on March 23!

What's more, a not-to-be-missed event every year is the « Braderie des commerçants ». This year, it runs from Friday, February 21 to Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 10am to 6pm each day. It's the perfect opportunity to spend a weekend on the Bassin and enjoy three days of shopping in the streets of Arcachon.

Practical info: the streets will be pedestrianized for the event, and parking will be free. So make the most of it and book your Arcachon weekend now!

4. Visit Bunker 502 to discover the town's hidden history

To take a step back in history, we invite you to discover this World War II relic in the heart of Arcachon. Built in just 8 weeks, it served as a refuge for two combat troops - the equivalent of 20 men - protecting themselves from the bombardments.

Specialized in telecommunications, this bunker witnessed many historic moments: the June 18th call, the signing of the Armistice and the German occupation.

Closed and levelled in 1946, it had fallen into oblivion until 2015, when it was explored and then excavated, so that it can now be visited.

A visit to the museum includes a film, a guided tour of the various rooms and a self-guided discovery of the outdoor trail, where you'll find an oyster hut, traditional boats, oyster ports... and much more.
